This is Somerset --
AN APPEAL has been launched asking Frome and district residents to help Mendip District Council plan next year's budget.
The consultation comes at a time when councils are feeling the effects of the economic downturn and government cuts to local services deepen each year.
This is why it is more important than ever that every penny Mendip spends offers the best value for money.
Taking part in the consultation will help inform decisions for spending in the 2014/15 financial year.
Council leader Harvey Siggs said: "As resources are tight, the council needs to think hard about its spending so that services continue to be of a high quality. And the needs of people and businesses are properly supported.
"I would urge our residents to let us know what their priorities are, so we can clearly see a current picture of what people think is important."
Chief executive Stuart Brown said: "Planning the budget becomes tougher on an annual basis. Difficult decisions have to be made, and it's very important to have the input of residents to help guide councillors towards the right solutions for the next financial year and beyond."
The consultation can be found on the homepage of the council's website www.mendip. gov.uk.
Anyone without internet access can fill out a paper version at the Council Access Points in Frome, Glastonbury, Shepton Mallet, Street and Wells.
A paper copy is available by contacting Customer Services on 0300 303 8588.
The consultation will be open until Monday, September 16. Reported by This is 3 days ago.
