Glass attack victim could have lost eye This is Somerset --

A young Glastonbury woman who "glassed" a man in a pub was told by a judge that she could have partly blinded him.

Emily Rutherford was told her victim could have lost the sight of an eye.

Taunton Crown Court was told Jamie Common was drinking in the King Arthur public house in Glastonbury at about ten past midnight on April 14 when he heard a sound, turned around and a woman asked what he was looking at.

"A glass was smashed into his face, causing cuts and three stitches had to be put into his right eyebrow. He was wearing glasses that took much of the force and protected his eyes," said Simon Cooper, prosecuting.

Harry Ahuja, defending, said Rutherford had pleaded guilty to assault causing actual bodily harm and was 19 at the time of the offence. She had only intended to humiliate him, he said.

Sentencing her to a community order with supervision for 12 months, the judge ordered her to do 60 hours unpaid work and pay £200 compensation plus £170 for damage. Reported by This is 2 hours ago.
