Taunton St Andrews shake champions to keep up flying start This is Somerset -- Taunton St Andrews inflicted the first defeat of the season on champions Bridgwater in Premier One of the Wadworth 6X West of England Premier League. The Saints reached 181-9 from their 45 overs. Opener Justin Avendano was top scorer with 26 from 33 balls while Rob Contreras contributed 25. Bridgwater were bowled out for 121 in 40.1 overs. The wickets were shared out with Ben Pitkin taking 2-14 from nine overs as Saints made it two wins from two games. Keynsham got their season up and running with a David Burston-inspired 104-run victory over Corsham. Opener Daniel Jarman was top scorer with 34 as Keynsham, who were put into bat first after losing the toss, reached 198 all out off 49.2 overs before Burston took charge with the ball. Burston claimed the first of his six wickets when Robin De Souza was caught by Sam Wheller as Corsham made a promising start by reaching 35 without loss. Corsham, however, failed to add to that score before the Steve Bullen was out for a duck to become Burston's second victim of the day. Burston then went on to complete an impressive haul of 6-29 off just 10 overs as Corsham slumped to all out for just 94 to ensure Keynsham secured their first victory of the campaign. Bristol, meanwhile, also claimed their first victory of the campaign with a two-wicket success over Ashcott & Shapwick. Ashcott & Shapwick were sent into bat first after Bristol won the toss, but an impressive spell from bowler Ben Smith, who claimed 3-29, was a contributing factor as they were skittled all out for 185 44.5 overs. Bristol set about their chase sluggishly, but an unbeaten 52 from middle-order batsman Masoor Khan pushed them on to 172-8 before rain brought a premature end to proceedings, leaving the hosts to win on a superior run rate. Matt Jackson was in fine form with both bat and ball to help Downend maintain their unbeaten start to the season following a four-wicket success over Frocester. Jackson claimed 3-39 as Frocester were limited to 193-8 at the end of their 50-over stint after choosing to bat first. The Downend skipper then smashed seven fours and one six on the way to 47 as part of a stubborn middle-order partnership with Ian Cockbain, who top-scored with an unbeaten 78, to help Downend complete their run-chase successfully in under 41 overs for the loss of six wickets. Rain took its toll on cricket fixtures in Gloucestershire. Matches featuring Cheltenham and Gloucester City Winget in Premier One were abandoned, while all but one of the games in the Gloucestershire Division were washed out. In Premier Two, Gemaal Hussain, Sam Trego and Shabil Ahmed all took two-wickets apiece before Weston-super-Mare's match at Cheltenham was abandoned. Cheltenham managed to reach 87-7 off 29 overs after winning the toss and deciding to go in first before a premature end was brought to proceedings. Thornbury, meanwhile, claimed victory for the first time this season after Richard Trotman top-scored with an unbeaten 81, before also taking four wickets, on the way to securing a 23-run success over Warminster. Middle-order batsman Trotman hit six sixes and four fours in an impressive innings during which opener Nick Willis-Stovold also weighed in with 60 as Thornbury set a target of 230 for the loss of five wickets. Trotman then took 4-33 as Warminster were seen off for 207 in 46.3 overs. An impressive century off the bat of James Williams was not enough to prevent Rockhampton from slipping to a two-wicket defeat at the hands of Potterne in the Glos/Wilts Division. Williams smashed nine fours and nine sixes on the way to 102 before Rockhampton were bowled out for 181. Potterne reached their target with two balls to spare for the loss of eight wickets. Chipping Sodbury lost by 61 runs to Chippenham. Sodbury were set a target of 179 after Jon Toghill had taken 3-35. The batting order, however, was ripped apart by an in-form Arran Merryweather, who took 6-25 as Sodbury were bowled out for 118. *RESULTS* Wadworth 6X West of England Premier League – Premier One: Ilminster 222 Bath 123-8 (T Rouse 45 no, L Kraucamp 5-32); Taunton St Andrews 181-9 Bridgwater 121; Ashcott & Shapwick 185 (N Karmarkar 56) Bristol 172-8 (M Khan 52 no); Keynsham 198 Corsham 94 (D Burston 6-29); Frocester 193-8 Downend 194-6 (I Cockbain 78no).
