Chelmsford's Mandeville back with new single This is Essex --

CHELMSFORD garage band Mandeville are back in action with a new single launched this week at a special gig at The Loop on Thursday, May 9. Darryl Webber found out more about the single and what else the band have been up to:

Hello Mandeville, it's nice to have you back! So, you launched your debut EP last December and you're doing something similar this week, aren't you?

Yes, with our EP still fresh in people's minds we have decided to continue the Mandeville barrage with a couple more piping hot tracks to keep the buzz up. A brand new one, Do It Again and an old favorite, Constantly Nervous, as the B-side.

Tell us the story behind recording and releasing Do It Again... you've teamed up with another local band, Wild Combination, haven't you?

We recorded with the Wild Combination lads as part of their pledge.com campaign, they have a really great studio space which is kitted out with some awesome vintage gear. It was perfect for us, and it helped to fund their latest EP Pulses which they released last week.

What was it like working with Christian and Dan of Wild Combination? How did their experience and knowledge help you out?

It was a totally different experience for us; up until now we have recorded everything ourselves with no outside help/guidance. Having Christian and Dan behind the mixing desk gave us more time to focus on the arrangement of the tracks with some welcome production tips.

How would you describe Do It Again and B-side Constantly Nervous to someone who's never heard your music before?

Do It Again is a full on garage rock track along the lines of bands like The Black Keys and The White Stripes; really in-your-face and to the point. Constantly Nervous is quite different, it has a bit of Spanish feel to it, so it's quite chilled (for us).

What else have you been up to between December and now?

We've been busy playing some shows in London and Brighton. It's been quiet for us on the Essex front ever since Hooga closed; we're really looking forward to getting back on the scene with the launch gig at The Loop.

What are your plans for the summer? Have you got any gigs or festivals lined up?

We are trying to get a slot at Brownstock (in Stow Maries, Essex) this year, and we have some summer London shows which you can find on our Facebook page (www. facebook.com/mandevilleuk ) The whole band are attending Glastonbury this year so maybe we'll play a guerilla gig in the campsite, or just crash the pyramid stage when Mumford & Sons are supposed to be on…

Finally, what music are Mandeville into at the moment? Any recommendations?

We are really digging Tame Impala at the moment; they are one of the best live bands we've seen in a while. Also, Unknown Mortal Orchestra, and Peace have been on our stereos quite a bit. A couple of young Brighton based bands have been on our radar too, BAYY and Birdskulls are well worth checking out. The dream of the 90s is alive and well in Brighton!

Mandeville play The Loop, Chelmsford this Thursday, May 9 with support from Lemoncurd Kid and Secret Company. Entry is free. Reported by This is 3 days ago.
