This is Somerset --

Glastonbury Male Voice Choir is preparing to celebrate a very special anniversary at its annual guest night concert on Wednesday. The choir, which was founded in 1923, will be marking 90 years of making music, and will be joined by soprano, Sarah Minns, pictured, who comes from mid-Somerset.

Sarah went to the Blue School, in Wells, before studying at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama, in Cardiff, and later at London's Royal Academy of Music.

The opera singer is now much in demand for broadcasting, recording and stage productions and has returned to her home ground several times in the past few years to give sell-out performances.

Last year she took the lead role in Wedmore Opera's highly acclaimed production of Eleanor Vale.

The male voice choir, which is led by Tracey Hansford, will perform pieces including a Cole Porter medley, music from Les Miserables, the ever-popular Rhythm Of Life and some songs with a nautical flavour.

The 90th anniversary concert is in Glastonbury Town Hall, on Wednesday evening, starting at 8pm. Tickets are £10, concessions £8, from choir members, Glastonbury Music Shop, or call 01458 830243. If any tickets remain they will be available at the door. Reported by This is 18 hours ago.
