A WELLS man has pleaded guilty to criminal damage after being caught on CCTV defecating in St Cuthbert's Church.
The charges against Gary Dean Neill officially related to criminal damage to two mass cards which he used to cover up what he had done.
Before being sentenced Neill, 45, of Charter Way, will have his mental health assessed.
Neill was brought before Somerset Magistrates in custody after being arrested when he failed to turn up for a previous court hearing.
As well as the incident in St Cuthbert's he pleaded guilty to being drunk and disorderly at Tesco in Yeovil on November 11 and damaging a glass door pane at McColls in Glastonbury on July 16.
He also admitted assaulting a female police community support officer at Glastonbury on October 15 and two further common assaults on Keith Jackman and Jack Adams at Wells on August 22.
Defending solicitor Jeffrey Bannister said that Neill had not received notification of an appointment with the probation service for his presentence report to be prepared.
On the date of his last court hearing he had been admitted to Musgrove Park Hospital in Taunton after being attacked and had been left feeling badly dazed.
Mr Bannister said a mental health report had been conducted on his client who had very complex needs and asked for a further adjournment for a full presentence report to be prepared.
The magistrates agreed to the request and put off sentencing until January 6 when Neill must return to the court at Yeovil.
In the meantime he was released on bail with conditions to reside at his home address and to report to the police the day before his next court hearing. Reported by This is 2 hours ago.
